Vera Moore was one of the first New Zealand-born pianists to pursue an international career. This exciting upcoming event, organised by the Histoire et Mémoire de la Vallée du Cher (HMVC) Association, pays tribute to her as a musician and teacher, in the district of Chandon (Athée-sur-Cher), where she lived in 1940.
An event organized by the Histoire et Mémoire de la Vallée du Cher (HMVC) association, the weekend will begin on Friday 18th of July at 9PM, with an open-air tribute at the port of Chandon located in the commune of Athée sur Cher. Attendees are invited to bring their own chairs to sit comfortably by the water and enjoy a shared listening experience of musical experiences (recorded, not live).
The program will continue on Saturday 19th of July at 4PM at the church of Saint-Martin-le-Beau, with a concert featuring Isabelle Damerose, a former student of Vera Moore (voice and piano), and Christopher Hainsworth (piano).
Finally, on Sunday 20th of July at 4PM, a special recital will be held at the church of Athée-sur-Cher, performed by Pierre-Alain Volondat, an internationally renowned pianist and laureate of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Competition (1983). As a former student of Vera Moore, he will pay tribute to her through this concert, as a heartfelt tribute and act of remembrance.
No reservations or tickets required.

About Vera Moore
Born in Dunedin in 1896, she moved to England in 1920, where she studied piano under her brother Frederick. Afterward, she became internationally recognised and spent time in France during World War II. Vera Moore then returned to France after World War II, when she lived in Paris and then in Jouy-en-Josas.
As one of the first New Zealand-born pianists to pursue an international career, this event is particularly special because of its location in the town of Chandon, where she lived in 1940.
To learn more about Véra Moore’s life, we recommend the book Vera Moore, pianiste, de Dunedin à Jouy-en-Josas by Christophe Baillat, who will be attending the event.
